Each council will have their own requirements in terms of the type of construction allowed, heights, widths etc to ensure adequate drainage is maintained & it suits all local development requirements. Common uses
ENCAT can custom design and manufacture a gutter bridge to be used at pedestrian crossings, shopping areas, driveways, car parks and other locations where a reduction in potential trip hazzards are required.
The most common use for our gutter bridge product is for newly installed traffic blisters where these traffic calming devices are added to an existing stretch of roadway. The raised sections can have one of our gutter bridges installed to literally ‘bridge’ the gap to the existing (or new) gutter that is installed on either side of the road. This creates a safe, smooth surface for pedestrians to walk over while also ensuring that stormwater drainage is maintained at all times.
An alternative to metal grates
This is a better solution compared to installing metal grates because the surface is not only flat, but the spacing of the drainage holes are large enough for water to drain, while enabling pedestrians wearing heals to safely walk on it without getting trapped. The design will prevent a heel from getting hooked & thus reduce any potential trip hazzards with an installation.
Better than concrete bridges
Typically another solution to covering the gap between a gutter and road calming device will be to install a bridge made out of concrete & then fixing this either side of the gap. This is a labour intensive solution to install, reduces the drainage capacity and is difficult to repair or extend if it becomes damaged. Our gutter bridge can easily be replaced or additional lengths added if required.
The perfectly level installation means there are no edges or raised elements at all which makes it safe as well as aesthetically pleasing to maintain the amenity in the vicinity of the installation. The combination of materials used means our gutter bridges don’t require maintenance and have a working lifetime of 10 years or more.
