ENCAT: Pedestrian Fencing used outside a public pool and car park

ENCAT Australia Pedestrian Fencing supplier in Australia for use outside public pools or car parks on a verge
This council used pedestrian fencing on the verge to help protect people visiting this community pool near the crossing and car park

"We are so lucky in Australia to have the weather and space to have local community swimming pools that give residents who don't live near the coast a place to relax."

"This project improved the safety of the entry to this pool with an extended run of pedestrian fencing either side of the crossing, especially important as the local schools walk the kids to the pool on sport days."

This project was completed back in 2012 where ENCAT was chosen as the Pedestrian Fencing commercial contractor to supply Type 1 fencing to be installed on the verge outside this popular inner west public pool for Ashfield Council. Since that time our fencing was removed and replaced with something else which may have related to the renovations to the pool in 2020.

Elizabeth Street runs through Ashfield and Croydon and carries a high volume of vehicles, especially during peak hour, as motorists use this street instead of the main arterials Parramatta Road or Liverpool Road.

The other aspect that made this a popular location is the local schools that use the pool as part of their sports programs. PLC Sydney, Ashfield De La Salle and Bethlehem College all walk their students to the pool.

Why was Pedestrian Fencing needed outside this public pool?

The local council wanted to improve the safety of people walking to the pool when they visited. There were a few scenarios they wanted to try and address;

  • People waiting outside the entrance for friends or family to arrive.

  • School group classes waiting on the footpath before entering the pool with a teacher.

  • On very hot days there would be a line up to buy tickets and enter the pool and people would be standing along the verge footpath area very close to passing traffic.

  • There is a driveway close to the entrance that would have cars entering and exiting regularly.

  • There is a pedestrian crossing outside the pool entrance

This site is a perfect example of where Pedestrian Fencing can be used to improve the safety for people and motorists. Even though it is not a multi lane main road, the street carries high volumes of traffic through an area that is mixed with a public use space and residential housing.

The Pedestrian Fencing installation compliments the existing crossing and by installing safety barrier fencing that is RMS compliant it means that if a vehicle was to veer off the road the fencing is designed to deal with that vs using standard metal fencing.

How did Pedestrian Fencing improve the safety of around the public pool?

BEFORE – there was just standard fencing on a run that was just a few metres long near the entrance. There was no other fencing on the other side of the crossing or near the car park entrance.

AFTER – the new Pedestrian Fencing we installed ran from the far end of the building all the way to the crossing & then continued all the way to the car park driveway entrance.

Pedestrian Fencing for public use spaces

ENCAT can supply Pedestrian Fencing that can be used for lots of different applications whether it is on a median or a verge, straight road or corner, residential or even retail shopping area. No matter the location it can be used to change the flow of pedestrian foot traffic in public use spaces very quickly.

As you can see from this example the fencing that was installed will force people to walk all the way directly to the car park areas on either side of the pool or to use the crossing. It means the temptation to take a quick run across the road at other locations is significantly reduced.

It also means that if people congregate outside the entrance there is a physical barrier preventing them from accidentally stepping onto the road.
